Many argue that music primarily serves as a means for individuals to alleviate their stress and anxiety. To a large extent, I concur with this viewpoint; however, I firmly believe that music possesses a greater purpose, that of elevation and enrichment.

Proponents of the idea that music primarily functions as a relaxation tool often cite its common usage. While empirical validation is elusive, it is widely acknowledged anecdotally that people predominantly turn to music for relaxation. Students and weary commuters, after a long day's toil, embrace music as a means to escape their anxieties. Scientific studies have substantiated this, demonstrating that listening to various music genres correlates with reduced blood pressure and increased heart rate variability—indicators of reduced stress levels. Although music also permeates celebratory environments such as parties, these instances are relatively less frequent for the typical subscriber to platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.

Nonetheless, music serves a loftier purpose by expanding one's perspective on life. When an individual immerses in the haunting melodies and profound lyrics of masterpieces like John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" or Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry," they are elevated by the profound artistic composition. Analogous to other art forms, music offers a lens through which the world is perceived, rendering ordinary life an aesthetic journey. These interpretations by artists may not always be optimistic; they often delve into themes of loss and addiction, yet they elevate these somber aspects, fostering a deeper comprehension of the complexities of the human experience.

In conclusion, while music undoubtedly serves as a source of relaxation for many, I contend that its paramount objective is to enhance the human experience through distinctive artistic interpretations. It remains entirely feasible for individual listeners to engage with music in a manner that resonates most profoundly with them.
